binchotan charcoal from the Kishu region of japan is super useful: keep it in a pitcher to purify your water, or throw it in the fridge to neutralize odors. the pieces absorb chlorine and other chemicals from water, while releasing natural minerals. they also soften water while making it taste better. each drawstring bag includes 2 - 3 long pieces of charcoal in varying shapes. 

to use: rinse charcoal and place in boiling water for 10 minutes. allow the charcoal to air dry and then place in water pitcher.
